Reykjavik Whale Watching Diary June 3rd 2012

Tour at 10.00

The heatwave continues :) . Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine. And some more. No wind and calm sea. Perfect conditons for whale watching today. A pod of harbour porpoises crossed our path right in the beginning. We watched them for a while and then we sailed off in pursuit of some whales. And we found them. Several minke whales were busy feeding and popped up all around the boat. It did not matter where you were on the boat, there was a minke in front of you. Very nice of them :) . Before we went on our way home we encountered the harbour porpoises again. After a short stop at Akurey to look at plenty of puffins we sailed back to the harbour. Very nice tour indeed!

Our second tour today was great as well. We did not find the humpback whales from yesterday but plenty of minke whales instead :) . They surfaced all around the boat and came pretty close as well. It is always nice when the whales come so close, we turn off our engines and let the whales come to us. After we had watched them for a while, they were joined by a pod of harbour porpoises. The bay was just full of wildlife. We also paid a visit to the puffins on Akurey and there were plenty of them about as well. Beautiful tour.
